TXRap: Sir Coop is definitely a unique name. How’d you come up with it & have
people ever mistaken you for Chamillionaire since he goes by “Koopa?”

Sir Coop: My last name is Cooper so I got the name Coop from people that watched
me play sports growing up. The Sir came from friends during my college
days. I manage to gain respect from a few people during that time so
they showed love, Thus Sir Coop. I don’t think anyone has mistaken me
for Chamillionaire. He is great & one of my favorite rappers, but I have
been asked where we related. Maybe they thought his last name was
Cooper, who knows, LOL.

TXRap: Alotta people remember you from the earlier “Freestyle Kings” mixtapes
with Lil Sho & Redd Da Azzhole but we really haven’t seen or heard from
you in a while. What have you been doin lately?

Sir Coop: I have still been on the mixtapes with Dirty 3rd and some other groups
but it was hard for me to get out there and show my face because of
work. I work hard because I have two kids. We made a lot of money doing
shows and features back in the days but rap money is great some months
and horrible others. I need guaranteed money on a monthly basis. No
excuses though, I am learning to work and grind at the same time, NO
SLEEP!

TXRap: Recently, a new Sir Coop mixtape mixed by DJ Woody Wood called “Reconize” has surfaced. What can fans expect to hear from Sir Coop in
2007 & who can we look for as far as features & production on “Reconize?”

Sir Coop: Recognize “Avoid The Fake” is just about the guy that I am today. It’s
just about being real. The CD is hosted by Magno of Wildlife Records and
other features include: Spark Dawg, Lester Roy, Chalie Boy, Ryno, etc.
D.J. Woody Wood did a great job with the exclusives also. We kept it
Southern and showed love to artist like Jokaman, Big Tuck, Tum Tum, etc.
I got love for their music.

TXRap: What made you go with the name “Reconize?”

Sir Coop: I called the CD Recognize because I wanted people to see me for what I
am, not somebody that is trying to be something they are not. Growing up
I did that on certain tracks trying to be hard and I was looked at as a
dealer. I tried that and it wasn’t for me. I deal CD’s and that’s it.
Now that I am older I see what is important as for as this game is
concerned. Just be real, be myself. Real fans respect that more.

TXRap: When you 1st stepped on the scene, you were rappin along side people
like Chalie Boy & Da Ryno on Dirty 3rd Records. Would you mind explain
your current label situation?

Sir Coop: I am still with the Dirty 3rd family. I just do more work on my own now.
Chalie Boy is a great artist and Da Ryno has proven himself to be
dedicated to this game. I feel like I have not proven myself as much due
to my family life. When I was working they where on the road. It’s only
right for Bull to put more money into them because they kept the Dirty
3rd name a live. I’m still there, I just got work to do, but it will
happen.

TXRap: Would you happen to know what’s goin on with other cats you use to rap
with like Lil Sho & Redd Da Azzhole?

Sir Coop: Sho is working and taking care of a child also. He is still rapping but
I am not sure if he plans to start back doing it on a serious level.
Redd fell on some hard times and had a few problems that I would rather
not discuss. I just want them boys to know that I got love for them and
will never forget what we had as a family. Also, I want to send a shout
out to Big Ake and Tite!

TXRap: So we hear you relocated to the state’s capitol city, Austin, TX. What
led you to Austin & how does it’s music scene differ from that of
Houston?

Sir Coop: I first came to Austin because I have a daughter here, but I am so glad
I came. It has been a blessing to me. I have been fortunate enough to
make a lot of moves and meet some good people like V-Roc, D.J. Woody
Wood, Spark Dawg, Rapid Ric and the entire What It Dew Family, Basswood
Lane, and others. I did not realize how much love I had out this way
until I started going out down here. The market here is open and the
streets are hungry. It’s there for the taking. Somebody just has to step
up and make it happen. Hopefully, I can step through the door! Houston
is a harder market to penetrate because it’s more commercial now. If
your not on BET, it’s hard to get radio play. That’s just my opinion.

TXRap: Are there any younger cats out right now that inspire you or keep you on
your toes?

Sir Coop: I talk to Magno, Kyle Lee from 3rd Degree, and Spark Dawg often. Those
cats are doing well for themselves and I respect that. They have all
been through some things but they have maintained. I can relate to them
because I feel the same way. So I respect those boys and admire their
work.

TXRap: As a southern rapper, does it bother you to hear critics say “Hip Hop Is
Dead?”

Sir Coop: As a Southern rapper I don’t pay attention to critics saying “Hip Hop Is
Dead.” Look man, they say that because they cannot relate to what we
talk about. For example, many people do not drive in New York, so how
could they relate to us talking about cars and rims. I have heard that
many of them live in apartments and duplexes, so how could they relate
to us talking about big houses. In my eyes a person should talk about
what makes them happy. We do that here. 16 bars does not have to be
complex to jam so if they want to call it simple so be it. The South
will continue to make money though, YOU CAN BET THAT!

TXRap: In your own words, what exactly does Sir Coop bring to the game?

Sir Coop: Sir Coop is a simple yet flashy guy living life and telling the story as
the days pass. I am very blunt and could care less about what critics or
haters say. One thing they will say is I keep it real and that’s what I want fans to know.

TXRap: You’ve gotta pretty nice sized medallion with your name on it. Where’d
you get done at?

Sir Coop: I got it done in Houston by a jeweler named Enrique in Sharpstown Mall.
We have been dealing with him for a while and he does good work. It took
a while but a little saving and female help took care of it for me,
LOL!

TXRap: We really appriciate you takin time out to chop it up with us @
TXRap.com, any last words, plugs or shout outs b4 we get outta here?

Sir Coop: I just wanna give a shout out to Spark Dawg, Magno, D.J. Woody Wood, V-
Roc, and everyone else who has been helping me since I made this move.
Thanks to TXRap.com for making time for me. Look out for ya boy. I am
working on several projects with different artist for 2007. I am
definitely in it to win it. Much LUV!
