TxRap: As 1 of the newer members Houston based label, Swishahouse, alotta
people might not know ya background. Can you explain what you were doin b4
you singed with Swishahouse & how you ended up the label?
Coota Bang: Before I got down wit tha house I was doin basically what I’m
doin now, wreckin on undergrounds with archies label Gorilla funk, just so
happen around tha time they came back 4 archie, they picked me up also
bekuz they liked how we got down together.
TxRap: Alota fans are lookin forward to ya solo album “The Bang Theory”
but lately we’ve been seenin a few promo ads for a joint album with you &
Archie Lee called “Hood Theory.” Can you explain that?
Coota Bang: HOOD THEORY is just an underground flow cd we puttin together
just 2 give tha public a fill for us, but its not a real album what people
don’t understand, but we MIGHT b makin our major debut as a duo.
TxRap: Outside of your situation with Swishahouse, true Coota Bang fans
know about the “Hound Gang.” Can you explain what’s goin on with the whole
Hound Gang movement?
Coota Bang: HOUND GANG is a lil somthin I got on tha side that I put
together just lookin out 4 my niggaz in tha hood. Besides myself it
consist of T.R.O.U.B.L.E., Jay Mob, Konan, G Klean, Lil Boom, &
Flintstone, among others that are on some mo shit if u know what I mean,
capturin all angles. Everybody apart of this is on they own grind untill
tha time comes.
TxRap: Recently it was revealed that both Yung Redd & Lil Keke have
secured distribution through Universal Records in conjunction with TF
Records. Any word on what major label is gonna be distributing your album?
Coota Bang: As of now I’m still “Swishahouse/Swishablast”, but who knows
how tha future will b, I mean I still got time before droppin a major.
TxRap: What artists did you grow up listening to b4 inking the deal with
Swishahouse?
Coota Bang: I grew up really jammin Micheal Jackson, Bone Thugs, Keith
Sweat, Louisiana bounce music, Hot Boys, Ghetto Boys, and pretty much any
type of music. When I started gettin tha hang of my own craft I kinda
faded away from listenin 2 others & focusin on myself.
TxRap: Alotta fans consider you 1 of the most lyrical artists on
Swishahouse. With that being said, how do you feel about alotta critics
sayin “Hip Hop Is Dead?”
Coota Bang: Tha whole “hip hop is dead” 2 me doesn’t really concern me, I
mean what I do is me and I’m southern, so with that bein said down south
never just was on some hip hop shit more like I’m from tha hood, this how
it go where I’m from, I’m tryna shine, and when I do I’m puttin it in yo
face, fuck what u think I’m tryna make money 2 support me and mine. Anyway
if u pay close attention and know your history, that’s an up north issue
as in new york. It didn’t start until tha south start takin over. They
feel southern artist takin food off they plate, so they say hip hop is
dead. We makin our money nigga. Anyway hip hop can’t b dead when u got
nas, talib, mos def & common still in tha game. I feel what they do but
that’s not me. Bottom line ima spit it how I spit it expressin me, deal
wit it.
TxRap: Die hard Swishahouse fans grew up listening to cats like Big Tike,
Lestor Roy, Magno & Lil Mario. Do you have any type of relationship with
any of those guys?
Coota Bang: To this day I’m cool wit’em all, & lestor roy is my GFC
(gorilla funk click) brother.
TxRap: How would you compare the Swishahouse of today to the old
Swishahouse?
Coota Bang: Back then it was more fun and really just somethin for tha
nawf side but now its a business that’s world wide.
TxRap: Outside of your Swishahouse family, who are some of the other
artists you’ve worked with & who are some artist you look forward to
workin with in the future?
Coota Bang: Outside of tha HOUSE I only fuck wit a few like my nigga $park
a.k.a. $park Dawg, TBG’s, Grit Boys, Triple A, & a couple others, but as
far workin wit someone else I don’t have anyone in mind as of now.
TxRap: Now we all know that when you’re in the “music business” alotta
women tend to throw themselves at various artists in the spotlight. Do you
have any funny groupie stories from the road?
Coota Bang: I aint gone put myself out there like that but I don’t really
fuck wit groupie hoes, I more about that gwak. Purse first ass last, ya
dig.
TxRap: Myspace has become the wave of the future. Almost every artist on a
major label has a myspace page. Are you the one actually checkin ya
messages or do you have someone else takin care of that for?
Coota Bang: I have people workin on my page but on tha message issue its
mostly me. If u come wit legit shit I reply.
TxRap: Any last words or shout-outs b4 we end this interview homie?
Coota Bang: Order HOOD THEORY on SWISHAHOUSE.BIZ,
